From what age should I take my children to the dentist?
top
The first teeth start emerging from around 6 months, so around 12
months of age is a good time to introduce your baby to the
dentist. At this time your dentist will just do a gentle
examination to get the child used to having his or her mouth
touched and look for any possible problems. By carrying out a
diagnosis at this early stage it is possible to advise parents
of any impending problems and talk about possible future
preventative treatment down the line.
At what age should parents begin to establish a routine for healthy teeth?
top
Any time after 12 months of age is a good time. By starting a simple routine of regular gentle brushing (make it fun) and by taking the children along for checks every six months parents can do a lot to eliminate the fear of possible pain in their children. It will also help to ensure parents are not passing along their own fears about dental pain to their children. Children whose first experience with a dentist is to have a painful filling are often left with bad memories for the rest of their lives.
Should I continue to take my child to the dentist every six months even though there are no caries to be seen?
top
Yes. Your dentist will help with a ‘prevention is better than cure’ program and will identify any possible problems developing so that they can be treated in the early stages.
As an adult, should I continue to visit my dentist every six months for the rest of my life?
top
Yes definitely. As we grow older, so do our teeth and once again early diagnosis of a possible problem can often result in a much less expensive and simpler solution.
Do I need to make an apointment?
top
Yes, so that we can organise an available time.
How far in advance do I need to book my appointment?
top
Usually 1 - 2 weeks depending on the location. But give us a call to see if we can find an earlier time.
My teeth are really sore, can I see the dentist now?
top
Give us a call and we'll try our best to fit you it.
What should I bring when I attend my appointment?
top
Remember to bring any x-rays, medical prescriptions, photo identification (eg. driver's licence) and your health fund card.
