There is no age limit for smile correction for adults. From those in their 20s to even senior citizens, anyone can choose to undergo clear aligners, though the time taken for the desired results could vary, with younger teens and adults possibly achieving results faster than older adults.
Although every child has their own timeline for growth, most develop a fully formed adult jawline by the time they hit their teens – approximately age 12-14. So it can be safely said that once majority of their permanent teeth have erupted through the gum, teeth straightening treatment through clear aligners can be initiated and a great option for teenagers. At this pre-adult stage, the teeth respond well to gentle force movement caused by the aligners and achieving the tooth’s ideal position becomes easier. As an added advantage, wearing clear aligners around this time helps with self confidence as their smile improves,
Orthodontic treatment is something many of us have gone through as teenagers, however, what happens after wearing braces can be almost as challenging for many – wearing your retainers.
If you stopped wearing your retainers shortly after getting your braces off, you are not alone. For one reason or another, most young adults stop wearing their removable retainers before it is recommended. A decade later, that decision can catch up with you as your formerly straight teeth are once again crooked.
In some cases, we may need to consider orthodontic treatment again, and Clear Aligners is an excellent option for those needing orthodontics for the second time.
If you had braces when you were younger but your teeth have moved a bit, and you’d like to realign them, Clear Aligners can be the ideal solution for mild to moderate teeth straightening.
In most cases, the answer is yes. A dental implant cannot be moved like a regular tooth as the implant body is fixed, integrated into your jaw bone. If you do have a dental implant, your treatment plan will definitely take this into consideration. If you have one or two dental implants, in most cases the movement of teeth adjacent to the implant can be planned for a successful outcome.
In most instances, the presence of wisdom teeth will not impede treatment progress. Before fitting your clear aligners, your dentist can perform an x-ray examination to assess whether the wisdom tooth would lead to potential problems later down the line. Even if the wisdom teeth are erupted and extracted during clear aligner treatment, it shouldn’t hinder progress in most cases: your dentist can trim the aligner back and leave space to accommodate the erupted tooth or surgical site
While Clear Aligners is designed to be comfortable and easy to wear, some discomfort or pain may occur, especially when first wearing a new set of aligners. The clear aligners are designed to fit snugly on your teeth, in order to move them into their correct positions.
A new set may feel tight at first, but your mouth will soon adjust to the feeling. The aligners work by putting pressure on your teeth to move them into their correct alignment, so you may feel tension or discomfort, especially in the beginning. In fact, mild discomfort or tightness is a good sign that the treatment is working, since it means your teeth are being guided to their correct positions!
Generally, patients find that Clear Aligners is more comfortable and less painful than metal braces. There are no metal brackets or wires that can come loose and poke your mouth, and rather than tightening the appliance, which can cause soreness in the teeth and jaw, the aligners fit snugly around your teeth for all-around movement.
